Best Filament for Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini

The Bambu Lab A1 and A1 Mini are open-frame printers, and that decides which filaments suit them. Pick the right material and they print beautifully with almost no tuning; pick the wrong one and you will fight warping for hours.
1. PLA+ — the best everyday filament for the A1

PLA and PLA+ are what the A1 series is built for. They print fast, stick well to the textured plate, need no enclosure and produce almost no smell. PLA+ is slightly tougher than standard PLA, so parts survive being dropped and handled.

What to buy: SUNLU PLA+ from ৳1,550 per kg is the value pick. For faster printing, SUNLU PLA+ 2.0 is made for high-speed machines like these.

2. Bambu Lab PLA — for AMS lite and multi-colour

If you have the Combo with AMS lite, Bambu Lab PLA Basic and PLA Matte have one real advantage: the spool's RFID tag tells the printer the material and colour automatically. For a four-colour print, that saves setup time and avoids choosing the wrong profile.

Other brands work in the AMS lite too — you simply pick the filament type on the screen.

3. Matte and Silk PLA — for prints that are meant to be seen

Polymaker Panchroma Matte hides layer lines and gives a soft, premium surface in a wide range of colours — ideal for figures, models and décor. Silk PLA+ gives a glossy, metallic finish for vases and trophies. Both print with normal PLA settings; slow silk down a little for the best shine.

4. PETG — when the part has to work

Choose PETG for parts that face heat, water or stress: brackets, clips, tool holders, anything that might sit in a hot room or a parked car. PLA softens at around 55–60°C; PETG holds up to roughly 75–80°C.

Tips for the A1 series:

Use the textured PEI plate. PETG can bond too strongly to a smooth plate.

Dry the spool if it has been open for a while — wet PETG strings badly.

On the A1 Mini, large flat PETG parts may lift at the corners because its bed runs cooler than the A1's. Add a brim.

5. TPU — flexible parts

TPU 95A prints well on both machines thanks to their direct-drive extruders. Two rules: print it slowly, and load it from the external spool holder rather than through the AMS lite, because soft filament does not feed reliably through the AMS tubes.

What to avoid on an open-frame printer

ABS and ASA. Both shrink as they cool. Without an enclosure to keep the air warm, large parts warp off the bed and crack between layers. The A1 Mini's bed also does not get hot enough for them. If you need ABS or ASA regularly, the enclosed Bambu Lab P1S is the right machine; otherwise use PETG.

Abrasive filaments on the standard nozzle. Carbon-fibre, glass-fibre, glow-in-the-dark and some wood-filled filaments grind away a stainless steel nozzle. Fit a hardened steel nozzle first.

A sensible first order

1 × SUNLU PLA+ black and 1 × white — for learning and everyday parts.

1 × a colour you like in matte PLA — for the first print you want to show people.

1 × PETG — when you are ready for functional parts.

A sealed box and silica gel. In Bangladesh's humidity, dry storage matters as much as the brand you buy.
